Winning region results in more than a trophy.
Just ask Emerald High School boys basketball coach Mark Sorrow, whose Region 1-AAA championship team capitalized on home-court advantage by winning its first two playoff games in thrilling fashion.
Sorrow’s squad beat Southside in the first round 67-60 in overtime. In the second, the Vikings beat Chapman 72-69.
“The home atmosphere has been great,” said Sorrow, whose team hosts A.C. Flora in tonight’s Class AAA Upper State semifinal. The winner advances to Saturday’s Upper State final at Greenville’s Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
“There was a great home crowd both nights; Saturday was just phenomenal,” he added. “It just appeared, Saturday, at the end of the game, the students got even louder and gave us a boost. Just the intensity of it was amazing. I hadn’t seen the gym that loud in a long time, and I hope to see it that way again (tonight).”
