Emerald High School boys basketball coach Mark Sorrow is the Index-Journal Boys Basketball Coach of the Year, but he realizes the award is not about him.
Sorrow earned the award because he guided a talented, hard-working team to a 22-4 record that won the Index-Journal Emerald City Classic, Region 1-AAA title and two playoff games.
Because of his team's accomplishments, Sorrow was able to collect one of his own.
"It's definitely an honor to be named Lakelands coach of the year," Sorrow said. "But as any other coach, I realize I'm only as good as the young men I'm coaching, and I had a great group of young men who worked extremely hard this year. They were a lot of fun to coach because they brought an attitude to practice every day that they were going to get better, and they got along great together.
"They were just a pleasure to coach, and any award that I get is because of the quality people that they are."
