Yanna Jones: Girls Basketball Player of the Year

There were plenty of things about her performance this season Greenwood High School guard Yanna Jones could be proud of.
She averaged 17 points per game, demonstrating an ability to seemingly score at will. When she wasn't scoring, she was crashing the glass (averaging eight rebounds per contest) or setting up teammates to score (averaging five assists per contest).
Jones is this year's All-Lakelands Girls Basketball Player of the Year based on all of those contributions, but it's the one that just creeps up at the end of the stat sheet in which the senior takes the most pride.
That number? Five, as in the number of steals she averaged per contest this season.
"Defense (is what I'm most proud of)," she said, without hesitation. "I would rather play defense than play offense. That's just how I've always been. I think defense wins ball games, so that's just what I (harp) on a whole lot.
