NINETY SIX — The year's inclement weather caused another delay in a Lakelands municipal project.
Ninety Six Mayor Arvest Turner said inclement weather was to blame for the delay in the Greenwood Mills site cleanup in Ninety Six. The site, taken over by the town within the past three years, had three old buildings, extensive undergrowth and briar patches. Ninety Six Streets and Sanitation Department director Chris Hepler said the overgrowth near the site's two ponds, especially, were extensive.
"It was to the point a rabbit wouldn't bother living there," Hepler said.
While the Streets and Sanitation Department did grounds work, the town contracted Busbin's Deconstruction at the recommendation of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to remove three buildings.
The first two buildings, a brick building and former laundry building are already torn down.
