One man was airlifted to Greenville following a shooting in Ware Shoals on Wednesday night.

The domestic dispute unfolded about 9 p.m. at 15 Wood St., and involved two male family members.

According to officials from the Ware Shoals Police Department, the suspected shooter is an elderly man in his mid-60s who resided at the home with his wife and three small children. Officials were not yet ready to release the man’s name late Wednesday. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument during which the man’s stepson confronted him and threatened to kill him. During the argument, the children and woman retreated into the home. The elderly man ordered his stepson to leave the property, but the victim continued lobbing death threats. That’s when the elderly homeowner shot the 41-year-old victim at least three times.

Police said the man suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and two to the upper body. After being shot, he fled from the residence and went to a neighbor’s home to call 911. Emergency crews life-flighted him to Greenville to be treated for his injuries. Officials noted he was responsive on the stretcher while being loaded onto the medevac.

No one else was hurt during the incident. Ware Shoals Police Chief Harry Irick said the suspected shooter was being detained at the Greenwood County Detention Center pending an investigation into the shooting. He had not been charged as of late Wednesday night.
