SALUDA — Saluda residents could see their fire insurance premiums reduced in the coming months, thanks to the Saluda Fire Department.
The Saluda Fire Department recently announced that the town's Public Protection Classification, compiled by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), had improved from a Class 7 to a Class 4. The lower the class number, the better level of fire protection.
"It's a job well done by our fire department, for providing the training and the expertise to be able to get a lower rating," Town Administrator Tom Brooks said. "That will, hopefully, save money for every homeowner and property owner in our town."
Saluda Fire Chief Edwin Riley said a representative from the ISO spent half a day with the fire department testing fire hydrant water pressure, pouring over documents and evaluating the department's ability to respond to emergencies.
