A man was arrested and is accused of assaulting another man.
Greenwood Police arrested Dennis Devon Hawes, 21, of 108 Merriman Street, and charged him with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
According to Greenwood Police reports, officers responded April 22 to a location on Woodson Court in reference to a 911 hangup. When officers arrived, they heard someone calling for help and found the alleged victim sitting on the floor of an apartment, bleeding profusely from his mouth. The report indicated there also was a cut on the victim's forehead that was about three inches long and two inches wide.
The officers said there also was "thick blood" on the floor. The report said officers attempted to speak with the victim, but initially were unable to understand what he was saying, because he was crying and there was a lot of blood in his mouth.
On Thursday, Greenwood Police Det. Nick Futch said the victim had several broken bones in his face because of the incident.
"Basically, there was somewhat of a get-together at (the incident location)," Futch said. "There was an argument between the suspect, Mr. Hawes, and a female. The victim tried to intervene on the female's behalf, and that's when Hawes assaulted him."
