Since 1914, the Greenwood Chamber has served as a tireless advocate for area businesses and businesspeople.
On Jan. 31, the organization will kick off a celebration of that century of service.
The Greenwood Chamber will host its 2014 Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration at the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College. There will be a reception at 6 p.m., with dinner and awards at 7 p.m.
One of the evening’s key moments will be the induction of the 48th member of the Greenwood County Hall of Fame. The identity of this year’s honoree will be kept secret until the night of the event.
Greenwood Chamber director of communications Jeff Smith said the Chamber has been looking forward to marking the organization’s centennial.
“It’s something that we have been anticipating for about the last five years,” Smith said. “Five years ago, we realized we were hitting 95, so we started looking ahead a little bit. We’ve been doing some preliminary planning. (The centennial) is huge. It really signifies, to me, the engagement of the business community of Greenwood, to support our organization and our efforts to advance the cause of business development and economic development in Greenwood.
