An Abbeville County man was arrested during the weekend following a fatal nightclub shooting at a Honea Path tavern.
Alex Anderson, 31, of 21 Beulah St., Due West, was booked Saturday at the Anderson County Detention Center, and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the incident, records indicated.
The Honea Path Police Department responded to the scene early Saturday morning and found a man suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshots, according to Honea Path Police Chief David B. King. He noted HPPD officials were assisted by Belton police and Anderson County deputies in controlling the crowd at the scene.
The shooting occurred just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the Time Out Bar & Lounge, 214 U St., Honea Path, just north of the Abbeville County border. Officials at the Anderson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Broadus White Jr., 38, of Anderson. Officials said the victim was already in critical condition by the time Honea Path Fire and EMS personnel transported him from the scene. White was later airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday. An autopsy was performed on his body Sunday. Anderson County Deputy Coroner Donald L. McCown said White died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
A magistrate judge denied Anderson's bond on both charges he faces during a hearing Saturday. Officials said evidence indicated there was a longtime feud brewing between the victim and suspect, and the two had a verbal altercation just prior to the incident. Honea Path investigators determined the two had at least one prior altercation.
