Greenwood police nabbed an apparent burglar following reports of a break-in near Mathews Mill Village during the weekend.
Robert Deal Jr., 41, of 515 Indian Road, Bradley, was charged with first-degree burglary, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, petit larceny and public drunk in connection with the incident.
Greenwood police responded to the house on Bond Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and found the homeowner standing in his driveway pointing the suspect out to officers. The victim told officers the man broke into his storage shed and stole several items.According to a city police report:
The resident told officers the robber stole a weed wacker, a pair of lawn pruners and a car wash set from the bin. That's when the homeowner retrieved his pistol and confronted the suspect, who, according to the victim, apologized, dropped the items and said, "I (expletive) up and I'm a crack head." A witness confirmed the victim's story. Criminal background history on the suspect revealed he had three prior burglary convictions.
