A Greenwood man was arrested Sunday following a shooting at the Phoenix Place Apartments during the weekend.
Johnny Marshall, 46, of 203 Watson St., was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime in connection with the incident.
Police responded to the apartment complex about 7:20 a.m. Saturday, moments after the shooting reportedly occurred.
According to a Greenwood police report, the victim told officers he was walking along Phoenix Street near the entrance of the complex when the suspect drove past him in a white Buick. The suspect then put his vehicle in reverse, exited the car and began arguing with the victim.
The victim said he has known the suspect for years, noting the two once worked together, and said they had ongoing problems. At some point during the argument, the victim, as well as witnesses, told officers the suspect said, "I got something for you," and walked back to his vehicle.
The victim then continued walking through a field across from one of the buildings as the suspect retrieved a handgun from his trunk, witnesses said. The man then fired a gunshot at the victim, got back into his car and fled the scene.
