A Country Homes teen was arrested Thursday night following a bust in the subdivision in which deputies recovered a stolen pistol.
Jailen White, 19, of 120 Singletree Road, Greenwood, was charged with breach of peace, aggravated in nature in connection with the incident.
Officers responded to a call about 5:15 p.m. Thursday and tracked the suspect to a residence along Parkland Place Road. According to a Greenwood County incident report:
The suspect was sitting on a deck with two others, and when officers approached he jumped off the deck and fled the scene southeast on foot. Deputies noticed him try to hand off a small handgun before he began running, but he was unable to make the exchange. Officers located the weapon - a 9mm Glock - half a block south of where the chase began, near the intersection of Trace Chain Road and Windmill Circle. The gun had a magazine with 10 rounds in it.
Officers subsequently located the suspect hiding behind a shed behind his house on Singletree Road. Deputies ran the gun's serial number through a national database, which indicated that it had been stolen in Greenwood on June 18. Officials at the Greenwood Police Department confirmed Friday the gun was stolen out of a vehicle parked along Dry Branch Court that day.
