At Saturday evening’s Lake Russell Freedom Blast, people from across the region gathered to enjoy the picturesque location in Calhoun Falls.
Residents young and old turned out for the event, which was centered at the new West Carolina Tel Blue Hole Recreation Pavilion. Those who attended enjoyed live music from the Funktion Band, food, swimming, water slides, a car show and more. The evening was set to close with a fireworks display.
Faye Crocker is the president of the Lake Russell Recreation and Tourism Coalition. She said she was pleased to see a good crowd in attendance at the Freedom Blast.
“This is our patriotic celebration for the Fourth (of July),” Crocker said. “It is a way to bring attention to the Lake Russell Blue Hole Recreation Area and to our efforts to enhance the lake and get everybody to enjoy it and realize what a great place it is.”
Saturday marked the third year of the Freedom Blast. Crocker said she is thrilled to see the event starting to become a tradition in Calhoun Falls and the Lakelands.
“It makes me feel really good,” Crocker said. “Our community needs an opportunity for people to get out and get together and for kids to come here and see what a great place this is to come and spend a day.”
