Greenwood police arrested a man Monday in connection with an attempted robbery at a convenience store on South Main Street earlier this month.
Timothy Williams, 23, 102 E. Tennessee St., Greenwood, was charged with strong armed robbery in reference to the incident.
Police were called to a food mart in the 1800 block of South Main Street on Nov. 6 after reports of a robbery. According to a city police report, the following occurred:
Reports indicated three men tried to rob a man outside of the store, before getting into a vehicle and fleeing the scene heading east. When police arrived, the victim told officers he purchased several items from the mart. When he stepped out of the store, one of the suspects reached into his bag of freshly-purchased items and tried to remove some of the merchandise. The suspect threatened the victim as he attempted to remove the items, the victim said. The victim then pushed the suspect away.
One of the witnesses at the scene told officers the three men surrounded her inside the store, while another said one of the three men tried to stop the robbery.
Police used video surveillance from the store, which showed the three suspects.
