A nurse at Wesley Commons was arrested Wednesday following reports she hit a 103-year-old patient with a shoe.
Okiemute Lott, 38, of 817 Spring St., Greenwood, was charged with abuse or neglect of adult with bodily injury in connection with the incident.
The incident reportedly occurred June 5 between 7 and 7:45 p.m. Officers from the Greenwood Police Department initially met with Wesley Common officials four days later.
According to a Greenwood police report, the suspect spoke with officers and supervisors at the assisted living retirement community about the incident. She told them she arrived to work that night and immediately became frustrated because several call lights were going off and nurses from the day shift left without putting several patients to bed who were supposed to be asleep. She said when she went to the victim’s room to check on him he was already in bed. When she tried to cover the man up with his blankets, she said he got upset and told her she was doing it wrong. She said she then noticed a cut on his left cheek, so she used to towel to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. That’s when, according to the suspect’s story, the victim became agitated and told her she was being too rough and she left the room to let a supervisor know it.
