Police arrested a Ninety Six man Sunday morning following reports of a violent domestic spat last week in which one woman suffered a broken foot after being dragged from a car.
Wesley Clinkscales, 25, of 92 Parkman Circle, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and driving under suspension in connection with the incident.
According to a Ninety Six police report, the attack took place Saturday afternoon at the suspect's home near the Colonial Heights subdivision just off S.C. Highway 248. The victim said she and the man got into a verbal argument during a phone call as they were having lunch. When the suspect grabbed car keys and attempted to leave, the victim tried to stop him. That's when the man became angry, threw his plate of food at her, struck the woman several times, choked her and threatened to kill her, she told officers. The fight spilled outside the residence as the woman tried to stop the suspect, who had a suspended driver's license, from leaving the scene in a vehicle. The man grabbed her by the throat and slammed her head into the car until he sped off at a high rate of speed. As the suspect sped away, he held onto the victim and dragged her until the force of the speeding vehicle threw her into a trash can on the side of the house. The woman's 5- and 8-year-old daughters witnessed the altercation and witnesses said they could be heard screaming, "Leave my mommy alone," at the suspect.
The victim was hospitalized following the violent ordeal, suffering four broken bones in her foot and had to undergo surgery to treat those injuries. She also complained of back pain in the wake of the attack.
