A domestic dispute led to an assault on a police officer Wednesday night in south Greenwood.
Stephen Neeley, 27, of 2220 Montague Ave., Greenwood, was charged with assault and battery, criminal domestic violence, resisting arrest with assault on an officer and public drunk in connection with the incident, records indicated.
Officers were called to a Hickory Point along South Main Street at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to respond to the domestic dispute.
According to a Greenwood police report:
Several witnesses told officers the suspect was yelling at a woman and threatened to break her jaw. The victim said she and the man had begun arguing during a car ride from Callison, in which he threatened to kill both of them by crashing the car.
Police eventually located the man, and during the course of the arrest, he kicked one of the officers in the chest as they were attempting to place him in a patrol car. Police pepper sprayed the man, who then complied with their orders.
