A search for a missing Lander University student ended tragically as he was found dead Friday afternoon.
Officials from the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office issued a statement indicating authorities located Darron Edward Harmon in Saluda County where he died in a single-vehicle crash.
Family members reported Harmon, 29, of Ninety Six, missing Monday when he failed to return home from a trip to Columbia to visit friends.
GCSO officials began an aerial search for the missing man Friday morning. According to preliminary reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, he was located about 12:20 Friday afternoon trapped in his vehicle in a ditch about eight miles south of Ninety Six.
Harmon wrecked at 6:55 a.m. Monday morning while traveling northbound along Halfway Swamp Road in a 2000 GMC Sonoma pickup truck, according to SCHP Lance Cpl. Tony Keller. Keller said he ran off the left side of the road, struck a traffic sign, went down an embankment and struck a tree, then overturned.
