April Mack stands before a magistrate judge Monday afternoon for during her bond hearing tied to a drug arrest.
A Greenwood elementary school teacher was arrested Monday following reports she illegally acquired prescription drugs.
April Mack, 44, of 1107 Wingert Road, was charged with two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud in connection with the incident. Both counts carry a maximum of five years in prison if she is convicted.
Greenwood School District 50 officials confirmed Monday that Mack is a teacher at Pinecrest Elementary School, 220 E. Northside Drive, and indicated she was placed on administrative leave last week. It was not clear whether her leave is paid or unpaid, but district officials noted she would remain in that status until the case is investigated further.
According to the Greenwood elementary school's website, Mack was a nationally certified educator who began her 18th year as a D50 school teacher this fall. She taught fifth-grade classes for nine years before moving to her current role as the lead instructor for Pinecrest's gifted and talented program.
