Two McCormick men were arrested on weapons and minor drug counts following a traffic stop near the Greenwood County Civic Center late Tuesday morning.
Randell Morton, 21, of 696 Christian Road, McCormick, and Devajay Stevens, 19, of 841 Pierce Road, McCormick, were each charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol in connection with the incident. Morton also faces a count of possession of a stolen pistol and possession of marijuana stemming from the incident, while Stevens faces a count of simple possession of marijuana.
Greenwood County deputies were canvassing the area near the Civic Center when they noticed a Mercury Grand Marquis traveling nearby with its rear driver's side door open. Officers then stopped the vehicle.
According to a Greenwood County incident report, the officer located a marijuana grinder in the driver's side door, and found a substance thought to be marijuana inside the grinder. Officers continued to search the vehicle and found a Glock 40 Mod/27 gun behind the driver's side seat and a .32 caliber New England revolver behind the passenger's side seat. Officers also found 6.2 grams of suspected pot in the driver's side door and another 3.8 grams of the substance beneath the passenger's side seat. Officers checked the weapons through a national database and learned the Glock had been reported stolen from Windtree Apartments in Greenwood.
