Helen Brown Long, former resident of Idlewood in Greenwood, widow of John Abner Long, died January 12, 2014, at NHC Healthcare of Greenwood.
Born in Belton, SC, on January 12, 1927, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Floyd Worley and Zoie Holliday Brown. She graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC, and from the Greenwood College of Commerce. She worked as a secretary for the Clemson Extension Service in Greenwood until her retirement in 1987.
Mrs. Long was a member of the North Side Baptist Church and the Dorcus Sunday School Class.
Surviving are three children, Cathy L. and husband Bill Harris, John A. “Johnny”, Jr. and wife Susan Long, and Carol L. and husband Frank Eck, all of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Travis and wife Scotty Brewington, Brandon Eck, Taylor Long, Crosby Long, and Jonathan Eck; two great-grandsons, Cash and Hank Brewington; two sisters, Riecy Hopkins and Anne Minasian, both of Columbia. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret B. Jennings and a brother, William C. Brown, both were of Columbia.
A private memorial service and burial will be conducted for the family.
The family will be at their respective homes.
