Marvin H. “Hugh” Worthey, 68, entered into eternal peace Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home with family by his side.
He was the only son of the late Lawton A. and Verna Hughs Worthey and was former owner & operator of Worthey ABC and Ned’s Senator’s Club.
He leaves to cherish and celebrate his life, his love of 50 years, Connie; his pride and joy, three sons Marvin H. Jr. “Mark” and wife Tracey Worthey of Lexington, Travis and wife Stacie Worthey of Irmo and Bryan and wife Jennifer Worthey of Greenwood; three grandchildren, whom he adored, Cole, Hayden and Elisabeth; in-laws, Karen and Mike Meredith, who gave him aide and comfort; a niece and nephew, Jennifer Johnston and Michael Meredith; a dear cousin, Norma Gatlin, friend and nurse Elaine Reed and several cousins whom he loved dearly.
Hugh loved hunting and was a true Gamecock fan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dennis Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Stevenson, Paul David, Dr. Edward McCallum, Mike Wilkie, Jack Turner and Ty Goldman.
Honorary escort will be Butch Dykes, Emma Wrightman, Jan Rushton, Lynn Hutchenson, Karen Wilkie, Darrell Shinnal, Larry Stewart, Clarence Young, Harry Porter, Jim Harmon, Jim Evans and Jim Lawrence.
The family is at the home on Trestle Road and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Sunday evening.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. John Holman, the staff of Self Regional Medical Center and Hospice Care of the Piedmont for their sincere care and compassion during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the American Cancer Society, 303 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
