James Harvey Cogburn

James Harvey Cogburn, 90, resident of 105 Alma Street, widower of Joanne McWhorter Cogburn, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at Hospice House.
Born in Edgefield, April 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Clarence Earl and Carrie Bryan Cogburn. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and a 1950 graduate of Newberry College. Mr. Cogburn retired from Piedmont Agency on Aging and later from Auto Zone and Park Seed Co.
A member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church, Mr. Cogburn was also a member of the Unity Sunday School Class of the church and former Little League Baseball Coach for the Greenwood Parks and Recreation for many years. Most importantly, he was a loving Father and Grandfather.
He was twice married, first to the late Sara Wells Cogburn.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Cogburn, with whom he made his home, and Kaye Fleming and husband Kenny of Ware Shoals; two sons, Jim Cogburn and wife Cheryl of Greenwood and John Cogburn and wife Ange of Ninety Six; one stepson, Mike McWhorter and wife Kelly of Greenwood; eleven grandsons, Andrew Cogburn and wife Jessica of New Haven, CT, Matthew Cogburn of Greenwood, Jason Fleming of Charleston, Jonathan Fleming of Ware Shoals, Bradley, Tommy, Kerry, Jamie, Daniel, Joshua and Timothy Cogburn, all of Ninety Six; four granddaughters, Sara, Heather, Lizzie and Maggie Cogburn, all of Ninety Six.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Rice Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. Alvin Hodges and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Cogburn, Bobby Burdette, Larry Wightman, Bradley Cogburn, Jason Fleming, Matthew Cogburn, Jonathan Fleming and Kerry Cogburn.
The family is at the home on Alma Street and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Saturday evening.
