ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Mildred Lomax Griffin departed this life on January 19, 2014 at the Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey. She was born on August 30, 1929 to Luther and Mattie Lomax in Bradley, South Carolina. Mildred was the youngest daughter of eleven brothers and sisters, Luther Jr., John, George, J.T.,Thelma, Ernest, James, Inez, Reginald, and Dorothy.
Mildred graduated from Brewer High School in her early years when she lived in South Carolina. Mildred later united in marriage with her love George Edward Griffin, and would relocate to New York City and to this union four children was born, George Jr., Sandra, Michael, and Lisa Griffin.
Mildred was employed at Columbian Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City where she worked for 25 years until her retirement.
Mildred Griffin was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church in the Promised Land Community in her younger years, and had continued practicing her faith at The Greater Refuge Temple in New York City.
Mildred was a strong mother to her children who loved her dearly, and the best grandmother ever known.  Mildred always welcomed friends and was loved by so many.
Mildred leaves to mourn her passing, one son, Michael Griffin and daughters, Sandra and Lisa Griffin all of New York; one sister Dorothy Harris of New York; six grandchildren Michael, John, Tiffany, Christian, Jay, and Crystial and four great-grandchildren Ja'maya, Kellany, Chase, and Chloe and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Services are 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Mt. Zion AME Church in the Promised Land, conducted by Rev. James Louden III. The body will be placed in the church at 12 Noon.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to robson@nctv.com.
