ANDERSON — Reverend James Robert Hicks, 95, husband of the late Rev. Clara Lou Bradberry Hicks, went home to Heaven Sunday, January 12, 2014.
Born August 4, 1918 in Anderson, he was the son of the late James Summer and Fannie Holland Hicks. He served as Pastor of Barnette Grove Emmanuel Holiness Church, working with his wife, Rev. Clara Hicks, who served as Assistant Pastor, from 1978 until their retirement in 2012. Prior to his pastorate, he worked at Lowe's for a number of years.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Hicks and wife, Wanda and Barry Hicks and wife, Carolyn, all of Anderson; six grandchildren, Dusty Hicks, Jessi Hicks Gilliam and husband, Randy, Rocky Hicks, Jacob Hicks and wife, Stephanie, Sarah Anne Hicks and Hannah Deanne Hicks; and two great-grandchildren, Aron and Savannah Gilliam. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Arice Moore, Edna Barnette, and Lydia Harris; and two brothers, Hoke S. Hicks and Ozey H. Hicks.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at Barnette Grove Church conducted by Bishop Ray Boggs, Rev. Ray Massey, Dante' Thompson, Rev. Melvin Powell, Pastor Dale Duckett, and Rev. Chris Hudson. The family will receive friends from 10:30  until 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. A private burial will follow the service at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family is at the home of a son, Barry and Carolyn Hicks, 1010 Harris Road, Anderson.
