Her obituary said she was a seamstress. To us, she was more like family.
Last Monday, a dear friend passed on. Her name was Aurea “Caridad” Capdevila. In our family, we called her Mima.

Unpacking boxes is an incredibly tedious task.
My family and I recently moved, and the process of preparing for the move, moving and then unpacking all of our stuff has been interesting, to say the least.

We love a festival, don’t we?
It’s one of the things that makes the Lakelands special. We don’t have everything here in our little corner of the world. This isn’t a metropolitan area, in any sense of the word.
But, we do like to party.

Remember when going to the movies was special? I do.

Well, it looks like the cat is out of the bag. The car has left the garage. The horse is out of the barn. The Index-Journal sports staff has left the bar.

If you didn’t get him a card, well, Walgreen’s is open. But the selection is probably pretty picked over by now. All they’ll have left is Garfield cards in Spanish. That said, if your father is a Hispanic Garfield fan it might be your lucky day.

Exactly a week ago, I went to the Self Regional Healthcare Cancer Center to do a story on Cancer Survivors Day, the hospital’s annual event designed to celebrate individuals and families who have battled the dreaded disease.

Simply put, $2 billion is a ton of money. An absurd amount of money.
As I’m guessing you might have heard, $2 billion is what former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has agreed to pay to buy the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers from banned owner and documented racist Donald Sterling.

This likely will not come as a shock to you, but I didn’t participate in the FFA when I was in high school.

Let me be the first on this Sunday morning to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms here in the Lakelands.
Yes, today is a day we set aside to show appreciation and gratitude for our moms and all they have done for us.  And, make no mistake, they’ve done plenty.

In these uncertain times, it can be easy to get pessimistic.

There are some people out there, perhaps even reading this column, who don’t like the great game of baseball.
These people are known as communists. Or, at the very least, communist sympathizers.

Easter is here and spring has (finally) arrived.
