Ramsey’s 35 leads Greenwood past Emerald

Greenwood High School boys golf coach Chip Whitt has an interesting way of setting the tone for his team’s matches.
He observes the conditions before match time and sets a goal for his Eagles to score.
Before Wednesday’s match against cross-town rival Emerald on the Vikings’ home course, Greenwood Country Club, Whitt decided 155 would be good.
His Eagles, though, had other plans.
Led by medalist Sam Ramsey, who carded a career best for 9-hole play, a 1-under-par 35, Whitt’s team scored a 148, which was 8 strokes better than Emerald’s 156. It was the second time Greenwood scored in the 140s for a 9-hole match this season. The Eagles’ best 9-hole team score of the year was a 146 on Greenwood’s home course, the Links at Stoney Point.
