After considering leaving Ware Shoals High School, football coach Lance Abernathy realized one thing.
Ware Shoals was the best fit for he and his family.
Abernathy applied and was one of three finalists for the head football coaching position at Chesterfield High School. Before coming to Ware Shoals, Abernathy was the head wrestling coach for the Rams and was an assistant on the football team. And his wife is from Chesterfield.
Ultimately, though, Abernathy recognized that he and his family loved where they are now.

"Since my wife has deep roots in Chesterfield, it was difficult to justify not applying or at least exploring the option," Abernathy said. "After much prayer and discussion, we realized that we are right where we need to be. My family has established stability and support here, and we have a lot of positive things going on in our lives. My family and I are actively involved in our church, and it is very important to us that our children gain that foundation."
