New Greenwood coach Dan Pippin has some big shoes to fill, as he takes over one of the most storied football programs in the state. Pippin chatted with Index-Journal sports writer Jordan Anders this week about the transition to Greenwood from his prior job in North Augusta, and what the transition has been like as he settles into his new gig.
Q: You’ve obviously been around Greenwood a while now, but you’re finally starting to get into the on-the-field part of your new job. How has that transition been for you?
A: Good. ... We had some of the young kids last week with some calisthenics and things like that, but to have the guys out there (Monday), it was just good to be back out on the grass coaching again. It was exciting.
Q: Are you still having to split time between here and North Augusta?
A: Nope, I’m here full-time now.
Q: How big a luxury is that to be able to dive in 100 percent now, as opposed to having to concentrate on two places?
A: I’m figuring out how far a drive it is from here to North Augusta (where Pippin still lives with his family). -laughs- When I first got the job, I was driving up three or four times a week, but I’m here all the time now ... and it’s been great.
