WARE SHOALS -- Without his starting catcher or shortstop, Dixie High School baseball coach Jimmy Prince needed some new faces to step up against Ware Shoals on Tuesday for his team to stay in the hunt for the Region 1-A championship.

And three sophomores came through.
Justin Taylor delivered a crucial two-run single in the fifth, Zach Songtaley made three key defensive plays behind the plate and Austin Ware shut down Ware Shoals in three innings of relief to power Dixie to a 7-4 win, forcing a tiebreaker game between the two teams to decide the region championship. That game will be played, according to Cole, April 26 at 7 at a site to be determined.
“I’m very proud,” Prince said. “We were down two of our main guys, so we had to have people step up. The catcher, it was his first varsity start. He made some outstanding plays and stepped up for us. We got a big hit by Justin Taylor to drive in some runs, and that’s another 10th-grader.
“A lot of young guys stepped up for me when we had to.”
