The Emerald High School baseball team started off its week with a big win against a ranked region opponent, and the Vikings are hoping to continue that momentum tonight.
On Tuesday, the Vikings welcomed fifth-ranked Belton-Honea Path to Greenwood and sent them home with a 6-1 defeat to pull even with the Bears atop the Region 1-AAA standings.
There is a third team sharing that lead, too, and that is who Emerald faces tonight in third-ranked Wren. In the teams' first matchup, the Hurricanes capitalized on shoddy Viking fielding to win 8-4.

"Everybody is now on the same page, and we need to continue this momentum," Emerald coach Stanley Moss said. "We didn't play very well the last time we played Wren, got behind early and just sputtered through the game. We need to take this momentum and carry it through (tonight).
"Wren is going to come in here knowing they've got a chance. We helped them by beating B-HP, as well as ourselves. They're going to come in here with their best stuff to get a win and put themselves back on top of the region."
