NINETY SIX — Ninety Six High School senior Ben Crittendon was a key part of gold- and silver-medal winning 4x800 relay teams at the past two state track meets.
This year, he’s trying to help the Wildcats continue their run of state success in that particular event. But to make that happen, Crittendon is taking on a much different role.

Crittendon is the only runner on this year’s 4x800 team who ran on those state medalist teams the past two seasons. With that experience comes the responsibility of showing the younger runners vying for spots on that team what it takes to be successful.
“It definitely puts some pressure on me,” Crittendon, a senior, said. “I’ve been having to step in and coach … and help them with handoffs or with a turn or something on the track.
“It’s put some pressure on me to be a leader to them because I’ve been in that position before, and now I’m trying to get them to that position.”
