Winning the Class A state championship is a very real goal for the Dixie School softball team.
The Hornets fell just one game short of winning the title last year and lost just three players from that team. In fact, of Dixie's nine starters in Game 3 of the state finals last year, eight return. As does the team's second-best pitcher.
But the Hornets are not focused on winning state. At least not yet.

"It's an unspoken motivation," Dixie junior Anne Marie Ferguson said. "We don't really talk about it, but it's there. That's not our goal right now. Our goal right now is to win region and then to win district. State is not our goal right now.
"We're just taking it one step at a time."
