ABBEVILLE - Abbeville High School football coach Jamie Nickles had one word to describe his team's spring game Thursday.
"Productive," Nickles said. "Obviously, to get tape and to be able to evaluate tape is priceless. I felt like we were productive today, both sides of the ball."
Led by quarterback Kelly Bryant, the Abbeville offense exploded for several big plays. Bryant kept the ball on an option, cut upfield, side-stepped a defender and raced down the sideline for nearly 40 yards on one play. Running back Tron Morton took a handoff up the middle and blasted a defender, dislodging his helmet.
And Sylvester Harris and Dashaun Harris each showed off their quick feet, juking in and out of tackles.
The Panther defense also excelled, stuffing several plays at the line of scrimmage. On one passing play, the Panther line busted through and hit Bryant, causing coach Tad Dubose to explode on the offensive line.
Mostly, Nickles was pleased with the intensity his team brought to the scrimmage.
