Shrine Bowl bound
Wideman, Morgan tabbed
Greenwood High School running back/defensive back Octavious Morgan and Saluda defensive tackle Dexter Wideman are two very different athletes, but they each received the same honor Thursday.
Morgan and Wideman were chosen to be two of the 40 players on South Carolina's roster for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, to be played Dec. 21 at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg.
For Morgan, a senior, the honor comes a month after he was chosen to be a part of the annual Blue-Grey All-American game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Much like when he received that honor, Morgan largely downplayed Thursday's announcement.
"It feels pretty good, but I haven't even really thought about it," he said. "I'm just worried about going out here and trying to get right to win (tonight). I'm happy, though."
Morgan is listed on the Shrine Bowl's roster as a defensive back, where he has seen action in five games this season, with three tackles and an interception. The bulk of his damage has been done at running back, where he has rushed for 495 yards and seven touchdowns.
His selection marks the sixth consecutive season Greenwood has been represented in the game, and 14 out of the last 15 years.
