The Radio Shack in Greenwood will be closing along with more than 300 Radio Shack locations nationwide.

Greenwood's RadioShack store will be among the more than 300 locations its parent company, General Wireless Operations Inc., is shuttering.

The company did not release a list of store closings, but updated the listings on its store locator map with information on which stores were closing.

The listing said the store's inventory is on clearance -- a sign in the window reads: "Everything on sale -- 30% to 70% off" -- but does not give a closing date.

Paul Scarpello, of Scarpello Development LLC -- which owns the building RadioShack occupies -- said the Sprint store associated with the 504 Bypass 72 NW location will remain open.

"Sprint is going to stay there and the question is will they be remodeling and how long is it going to take," Scarpello said

John Plemons, who has shopped at RadioShack in Greenwood for about seven years, said he's disappointed it is closing.

"It's too bad because there's not many stores in Greenwood that sell the amount of cables and such, other than maybe Wal-Mart," he said. "It's going to be very disappointing that I'm not going to be able to come here and get the things that I need."

An employee who answered the phone at the business Friday declined to comment.
