A Greenwood man will spend 15 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of spending years molesting a child.
Howard James Woods Jr., 51, of 126 Blyth Road, Greenwood was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor following a two-day trial at the Greenwood County Courthouse.
Circuit Judge Frank Addy Jr. sentenced Woods to 15 years in prison, and he must serve a minimum of 85 percent of it before being considered for release.
According to a release from the Eighth Circuit Solicitor's Office, a woman reported Oct. 23 that she had been assaulted by the man during a six-year span, starting in 2003 when she was 9 years old and ending in 2009, when she was 15.
Assistant Solicitor Anna Sumner and Deputy Solicitor Yates Brown handled the prosecution, and Woods was represented by Janna Nelson and Jennifer Clinkscales with the Eighth Circuit Public Defender's Office.
